you mean in a raid configuration?

depending on the raid configuration, you can use 2 identical HD for performance, or for data redendancy...

If you just mean two regular harddrives in one machine in a non-RAID configuration, there are alot of benefits as well.

I use one of my HD's for data storage and game installs. The other HD is where my OS resides and some other minor programs.
That way should my OS bomb I can reformat that drive without losing tons of data and programs.

A second HD can be used for backup without RAID also

IF you have some REALLY important stuff..like financial records and such..then it is cool to have 2 seperate hard drives so that the important data can actually be backed up so it is on both drives...that way if one drive dies, at least you still have the data on one drive.

Sometimes drives dont give a warning...you just boot up one day and WHAMMO, it says "primary disk failure" or "operating system not found". So in that case it'd be nice to have really important stuff on 2 drives.
