do you think that they will upgrade the 3000+ and or the 3200+ to the 940 chipset anythime soon. I have been wanting to build but want to get the most out of my memory by getting dual channel.
AMD has "pulled an Intel" with their stupid socket switching trick. I really don't know, and unless the info is out but NDA's are holding it back we will just have to wait.

Here's whats gonna happen. 940 is going to become an Opteron only socket, the FX series will be moved to Socket 939. The 64's are probably going to stay on Socket 754(or whatever the number is).
Opteron = Socket 940
FX series will move to the Socket 939 still having the Dual Channel DDR feature.
The Athlon 64 line with the xxxx+ will have single channel only and remain on the Socket 754, and will be for the budget conscious minded people. Besides, if you look at the reviews, the 3400+ is kicking butt
DDR2 can be used in single or double channel chipsets, just like regular DDR. Using registered RAM in a mobo that doesnt require it is a waste of money, dont even think about it!
only the FX has dual channel i think. the A64 has reduced cache size (expect for the 3400+ i think) but not because of dual channel, because it doesn't have it (i think)
