PNY 5200 power issues

My friend has an emachine with a 120 watt power supply. the box says minimum system requirements are 250watt. its working fine but he is worried he could fry the psu or mess something up. any suggestions (besides getting rid of the emachine)?

WOW...120 watts!

How about replacing the power supply with a bigger one? You can buy them at Fry's or CompUSA...

What's the model number of the eMachine? What are the system specs? Of course if there isn't much room in the box, a new PS won't fit...

Another thing you could do is buy a case large enough to accomodate his new power supply and transfer the emachine parts to the new, larger case.

I looked up your current PS to see what it looked like...but eMachines put the absolute worst picture they could of it...looks like anything but a PS... I can't tell how big it is from the pic...

You can get an 'upgraded' 145 watt PS here.

Here is a list of all the PS eMachines offers...but I can't tell if any would fit in your friend's machine.

I'm sure others will have suggestions...if it were me I'd call eMachines to see if they offered anything else or if any of the other PS's they list on their website would fit that machine. Otherwise if I couldn't find a replacement PS somewhere else...I'd buy a new case and transfer the parts over...maybe time for an upgrade?

if it ain't broke don't fix it .

emachines use a proprietry power supply . so finding a bigger one might not be worth the cost . if it is running fine leave it be just make sure you tell him to keep the power supply clean . dust build up will kill it fast if your worried about it working to hard .
