What voltage???

I want to overclock my AMD XP 2500+. I understand how to change the FSB and the multiplier. My question is how do you figure out what to up the voltage to? I don't want to fry my mobo so if anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.

My Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Epox 8RDA nForce II chipset mobo
Maxtor 120 Gb HD
512 Mb RAM
Creative 5.1 Soundcard

I think the voltage for that is 1.65....so what you usually do is try to see how high you can go without messing with the voltage...and then if you want to try for more you just SLIGHTLY increase it from there....depending of course on the motherboards bios...hopefully is has SMALL steps like .05 (Im not sire what steps motherboards work in...maybe its .1 or so)

The main issue is when you increase voltage you increase heat, so you have to watch that and if you wanna OC you might have to go to better cooling.

Upping the voltage wont blow the motherboard, but could blow the cpu...or shorten its life....with voltage increases, maybe a little goes a long way...usually a touch more voltage is given to try to get that last mhz overclock to be stable.

Make sure you have a good cooling solution fitted in your system before overclocking too high, by the way. If you've got a good heatsink and fan then you shouldn't have any worries about frying your CPU.

To overclock, just keep upping the FSB a few MHz at a time until you have a faster, stable machine.

increase the core voltage by the smallest increment available in the options.. i've read somewhere that going beyond 1.9V will shorten or damage the processor. my overclocked tbred 1700+ now runs at 1.75 from 1.65. a good cooling device should be used.
