Radeon 9700 Pro - correct drivers???

I just installed a new Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb DDR Graphics Card, and it works good as far as I can tell, except for a couple of things...

First off, I cannot access the Radeon control panel. When I follow the manual that came with this card, it says to go to display properties and click on advanced. In the book, it show the Radeon control panel but all I get is the Dell M991 window, just like before I had my new card (however, it does say "Dell991 and Radeon 9700 Pro Properties" at the top)

I checked and the correct driver is installed (right off the disc that came with the card) and my PC is saying that "this device is working properly".

My question on this is: Should I try and find the newest driver from Radeon, in the event they've updated their driver for this card since mine was produced? I went to Radeon's site, but they don't have a release date on the driver that I can see.

Also, What should I set my monitor refresh rate at? It's currently set at 75 hertz. I have the option of running it up to 120 hertz. (yes, I do have the little button selected that makes the system "Hide Modes the Monitor Cannot Display)

I'm running XP Pro 2002, with 1gig DDR Ram.

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

If you haven't already, go here and get the latest Catalyst Drivers 4.1
Go thru the steps of selecting your OS then Graphics Driver, Radeon Family and select the 4.1's with the Control panel included. Around 25 megs.

Uninstall the crap that came with your card and run the install of the 4.1

You will then be a very happy person and things will run as they should.

Welcome to the ATI family. Life is now good.

One other thing... Your refresh should be atleast 85hz unless you are running above 1280x1024 then you might want to hang around 75hz or your moniter will go pffffttttttt ...

That was trhe problem. I had the right driver, but I had the wrong control panel.

So, what is WDM Capture driver?
I downloaded all this separately and did not get this.

Is this something I need?

I'm just using my machine for business applications such as graphic development, web design, and MS Office

BE VERY CAREFUL with installing new drivers. From my tests, ATI either corrupted the OpenGL drivers leaving OGL games unable to play.

thronka: what are you saying?

Rockrz: WDM Capture is a driver for Video-In. If your card doesnt have it, you dont need that driver.

Always uninstall old drivers before running new ones, even like Detonators or whatever. Sure you will be stuck in VGA mode while you install, but that's worth it to ensure stability.

My card does have video capabilities, but I'm not going to be using that feature.

Thanx
