better for vhs burning avi or mpg?

which form is better for burning to a dvd? avi or mpg? how can i get it as perfect as possible..? i use sonic my dvd.......

Are you planning on watching them with standalone dvd player? Are you planning on watching them with standalone divx player?

Either way, I wouldn't burn something from vhs to dvd. I'd probably go with regular cd's and svcd.

As perfect as possible would probably be good bitrate xvid or svcd, the vhs quality in itself isn't that good.

Can someone verify whether it's possible to watch (s)vcd/xvid burned on a dvd with a standalone player that supports those formats?
