d-link vs belkin routers

OK, here's the deal, my company has a network setuyp that allows us to connect to the company LAN by sharing a DSL connection through a router. I have a D-Link 604 router. I have played around and got it to work but not exactly the way I want it to. My neighbor has a Belkin (not sure of the model) and it works (connecting to my company LAN) exactly how it should. Any ideas on what the difference may be?

I'll give a little more info on the subject. The company requires that IPSec and PPTP (Europes version of PPPoE) be enabled. On the Belkin, the PC connects form the initial windows login screen in about 3 seconds - on the D-Link it is 200 seconds if it connects at all. I can connect to through the D-Link by logging onto the PC itself (without network) and then "dialing up" the remote access but cannot access the mapped network drives whereas on the Belkin this is not the case - I can login the same way I do at the office. I believe it has something to do with the firewall and the VPN - this is how I have found a "work around". E-mail and other network apps work fine once I login ????????

Here's an update and question, I traded my neighbor routers and all is well on my end (net connection seems a little slower now but it might be my imagination) - thanks neighbor!
Question - my neighbor is way into playing Everquest, the D-Link 604 has an option to open ports for gaming (he went away for the weekend so we won't be able to test the game until Sunday afternoon), the Belkin makes the same claim but nothing special had to be setup to play Everquest. Anyone out there using a D-Link 604 on DSL and playing Everquest?

For your first guess, it would ahve been the vpn and its firewall. Also, you might would have wanted to check the proxy settings for your company and see what the requirements were. that might ahve prevented you access to the network and its mapped drives. That is my beswt guess...

Cheers,
Dan

I've had a D-Link for 4 years no problem

I think it's the 704p the p for print server, I'd go look but it's in the other room I'm tired

I went for the D-Link at the time because of price and the built in print server ( that i don't use, once I discovered how to network M$ file and print share)

belkin is more popular I believe, but both are good
