Mobile Athlon xp's = good overclocking?

Mobile ahtlons run at a lower voltage. Does that mean that you can raise them and push the speed higher than a normal athlon?

I believe a few members on the www.amdforums.com bought the Mobile XP 2500+. Do a search there, there's some info.

Wont run on a standard XP board so dont bother. Its a stepping issue. Many tried and all I know that did failed miserably. At sysopt one guy made it his life's goal for like 2 weeks. All he got was a useless Mobile chip and a mobo that wouldnt run it!

Now, I'm not much into overclocking, but I did stumble across a few threads that suggest they do run fine on current motherboards, and quite well.

Hmm I dont know then. I do know someone who waisted a hole lotta time getting nowhere with one and a Nf2 board. Said the stepping wasnt recognised as its a mobile chip and the desktop bios wouldnt volt it correctly I.E. no boot. Which sounds logical to me. Hey go for it. I sure wouldnt waste my $ like he did though. At sysopt he tried for a while to get it to work then just gave up! Course it might work with some hard modding but thats risk IMHO.

Talking about powernow feature and auto changing multi. Cool! I think its alot of hit an miss though. I mean there is conflicting info on it. Some get it to go most dont Ive talked to. Im SURE it has to do with bios allowing and supporting it too. That would be peter's area but I know its got to recognise the stepping to setup volts and multi +fsb parameters. Without its just all willy nilly and could even fry the cpu at worst or underpower it (no boot) at best or just get plain lucky with the defaults! A list of known Mobile cpu's and boards would be a way for us to know which work-which dont without wasitng $ and effort. Some have done it it seems. So what are they useing/doing. IF somone would do the research it would be good "sticky" info to keep in the CPU forum. As Im sure it'll be asked again. And like I said alot have failed and would be interested in this info. Anyone into some heavy research? Even better one that claims to have done it- say mroe then "I did it" and tell us what hardware etc. And maybe even compile a list from forums where they got info on ones that work?

Seems alot of folks did it at hardforums. Im wrong. 100% wrong. Sorry if I misled anyone. Wonder why the dude at sysopt and some of my net buddies had problems? Maybe the early mobile cpu's were diff? Dunno? Strange though-really. Even a Wpox nf2 listed as o.k.

My Q is does the SSE MMX and 3dnow/+ all work still as windows ID's it as "unknown cpu" does it still "recognise" the extensions. Hmm. And at full optimised speed? Some benches with a mobile 2500+ persay at stock speed would tell us something. Compair to one of our desktop 2500+ and see whats happening. And Sadre will list cpu extensions like SSE and such.

Still seems luck must be on the clockers side. cause not all mobiles do better clockign the desktop XP's.

"my mobile 2500+ came in today..it (bad word) blows goats...wont prime at 2.3ghz even at 2.1vcore
and it wont do over 200mhz FSB no matter what on a NF7-S rev2 !!"

( I edited one word only-rest quote)

So since there are XP 2500's that have done 2.4gig what do we gain with mobile 2500+ IQXFA vs Desktop Xp like my 2500+ AQXDA stepping also some of which hav ehit 2.4gig air. Ermmm. I dont think they are "better silicon" cpu's or whatever like some are saying. Or else they all on avg. would clock higher then Xp's. And they dont. Seems to be about the same avg. Just neat to do I guess. The powernow thing is cool. But on desktop I dont hav emuch need for it. When we hit 4gig it'd be col if your cpu could say run at 900mhz on net then switch on fly for multi tasking, gaming, encoding to full power! Energy Star enhanced -hehe.

On air? 2.6gig. Got a WCPU ID capture of that? Nice.
