Media CD-rw/dvd - CDROM 6x compatibility?

Hi
I have an IBM model t23 thinkpad with a cd-rw/dvd CD installed and my son just sent me his old IBM thinkpad 760el with a 6x CDROM installed.

Now the question - I used the supplied software on my t23 (IBM Record now -veritas) to copy some files ( I tried both a cd- rd and cd-rw type 700 meg format) that I wanted to transfer to my sons computer to the CD-rw/dvd cd (even changed the record speed down to 2x). When I put it in the cd drive on my sons computer I get a not ready message. I made sure that the device was seated properly and put a CD in that I gotten at a gartner conference and it read it no problem.

Any idea what is happening here? Are the media formats incompatilbe, is it that the older type (my sons in this case) cd drives are not capable of reading the 700 meg format?

Systems

Thanks, I have tried bothwhite (but that may have been recorded at too high a speed - need to check that out) and gray which did not work.

I have some other data CD's that I had not created (black in color) which could be read.

Thanks

I have found the best way to guarantee compatibilty is when recording a cd-rw make sure you close the session and the disc. This allows many older cd-roms and cd-rw's to read disks they otherwise couldn't read.

Misc

Elroy thanks.. I am not sure how to CLOSE the session/CD? I just shut down the IBM record now program after telling it I do not want to make another copy. I assume that it handles the close process. Could be wrong (probably am) will have to check the help for that program.

thanks again..any other thoughts would be appreciated.
