Laptop repair

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a laptop repaired? The harddrive on my Acer TravelMate 800LCi went bad on me over the weekend; the unit is not covered under a warranty at this point..

Either a good place to send the unit to get fixed or a good place to buy the hard drive for a DIY job would be appreciated.

Thanks

http://www.newegg.com/app/listProduc...tby=11&order=0

Replacing a hard drive isnt too hard really....but then you have to reinstall windows and reload drivers and patches etc etc.

Do you have restore disks etc??

I do have the restore cds, so that will make life easier.

Are laptop harddrives like pc drives, ie any IDE drive will work in any system?

as far as I know yes....of course with laptop drives you have the different rpms just like with a regular computer except laptops start at 4200 rpm then 5400 and I have seen some 7200 rpm models....so you can get better performance with a higher rpm drive but it will also be a little hotter/louder.

I suppose also a higher rpm will use more battery power

Well, some laptop drives are 12mm thick and some are 9mm thick, you need to make sure you get the right one to fit your laptop...

Does anyone know anything about ? I found them while searching for repair places. So far they seem to be legit, but I want to make sure of them...
