Barton 2500+ OC on stock cooling?

I am thinking of purchasing a barton 2500+, the price seems right..

How far can you OC this on stock cooling? I hear reports of many people getting to 3200+ but is this possible on the stock cooling?

it certainly is possible... it just depends more on the environment your pc is in. if your room is hot, then most likely you will need a better hs... but if your computer is in a cooler room, then stock should be just fine. another thing you must keep in mind is good airflow throughout the case.

Yep and all the diff 2500's go to diff oclocks. So its give and take. Most are multi locked now though so you gotta bump the fsb only. Some Russians broke that but I dont remember how they did it. Think the article was here actually.

They broke the multipler lock by connecting the L5 bridges on the CPU or something to change the cpu to an 'AMD Athlon MP/Mobile Athlon.

Since these cpus come without their multiplers locked. You can change the multipliers either via motherboard or via a multipler changing program for the Mobile Athlons..

I think..

Nope, multiplier is locked. You can only raise the FSB to get anything outta this puppy. Im up to 3200+ though with a Vantec Aeroflow and 6 case fans. It runs at nothing more than 38 degrees celcius at full load.

If you have a NforceII motherboard, you will get the chip to overclock to 3200+ with stock cooling. Have done this one 7 systems flawlessly and each runs between 46-54C with stock cooling depending on air circulation on the case.

As long as your board can do 400mhz (200mhz) Front-side-bus then that 2500+ will overclock to a 3200+.

Even if you were to get a 2500+ that was locked (my friend bought one last week and it wasn't locked) the greatness of a 2500+ is the the multiplier doesn't have to be changed to overclock it.

Default is 166x11

Change it too 200 x 11

using the FSB I have overclocked the 2500 I bought around 10-2003 to 208X11=2288 mhz, but I use the vantec aeroflow heatsink and fan with 5 case fans also...overclocked temp of 42C benchmarked...38Cidle, i had to much trouble using the multiplier from the bios trying to overclock the cpu so i just use the FSB which my "generic" DDR 2700 with heatspreaders running dual channel (2X256=512) seems to handle well.

so in short...he he he....it can be overclocked with stock heatsink but i ran temps of 48C and into the 50's full load, but also had a smaller case with only 3 fans.

I thought that some of the higher end Nforce2 boards had a dual bios thing that let you change the multiplyer with out having to unlock the CPU?

on my K7N2 Delta L nForce 2 chipset 400 edition MSI board...
I can just change my multiplier without changing anything else. But I seem to have different types of problems by doing so. I would have to then adjust my voltage etc. It seems that when I just overclock the FSB, even though everything else ups with the FSB, it seems to work better and I don't have 2 or 3 different settings I have to mess with...but it can be done all seperatly though...guess it's per your liking...

The Real Bingo, I'm sayin that you can 'unlock' the locked multiplier by converting the CPU to either an AthlonMP/Mobile Athlon...
