If you open up the Device manager, you should see the device popping in/out of the list. (Get to device manager by: Control Panel -> System -> [Hardware] tab -> [Device manager...] button)

Later this evening I can hunt down a utility that shows you hardware activity. I was unable to find it right now, but I can look for it later.

Alright, I found the utility I was looking for.

Head over to Test Tools for DynSite and download the program called Plug-and-Play Monitor. Check the [x] Monitor all Device types, and click [Start]

Once you hear the sound again, look at the program and see what popped up. If you can't identify your device, paste the contents of the PnP Monitor here and I will take a look.

are you on dial up or cable/lan?

if you right click the internet explorer 'E' and do properties/connections..what does it show

is it "Never dial a conn......

or... dial whenever a network conenction is not present

or...always dial my default ?

If its not on "never dial"..........try it there.

It sounds like your mouse to me! It looks like a wire is broken in the mouse cord (or inside the mouse itself.) That would explain the disconnect/reconnect *and* the pause in the mouse for 1 second.

It is also possible that the mouse is coming loose from the USB (or PS/2) port. I would try tugging/pushing on the mouse wire and see if you can reproduce the issue.

What kind of mouse is it? If it IS defective, you could probably get it replaced for free from the manufacturer.

You're right!!
I try pushing the wire in and out from the mouse then lights go off then on and sounds occur.
The mouse is from A4tech optical.
But for a loose wire can I get replacement? or should my dealer send it for repair? otherwise I would open it up and make a good join by myself. FYI. 2 months to go to end it's warranty.
Thanks for all your help.
