Linking desktop and laptop

I am sorry if I gave the impression that I am stealing internet. This is not the case. I live in half of my brothers house. The cable company is the ones who came and hooked everything up. They are aware of the situation and since it is 1 family in the household they allow this.

I do hope to get some feedback on my question in the original post. I am by no means trying to purposely do anything unethical or illegal.
