printer problem

I have a setup with one printer for two computers with a switch to select computer. The OS is Win 98 and Win XP. I had to take the XP in for repairs and now I cannot print with the 98. Can anyone tell me why or what I must do to get it to operate.

Did you try connecting the printer directly to the Win98 pc and printing?

Probably it was installed on the XP box and XP was sharing it huh?

I suppose in that case youll have to install it on the 98 box just as if it was the only machine you had.

I have tried to hook it up deirectly to the printer but I get an illegal operation note and the machine freezes. I also have a disc for the 98 installation which I have installed. Originally the computer was hooked to printer with a serial connection and now the only way I can hook up with this printer is a USB connector and that does not work. Guess I'll have to wait for the XP to return. Thanks a lot for your input.
