booting from CDROM

I want to fix a fault on my win2000 pro OS by booting with the OS CDROM. Have made CDROM the first boot device in BIOS. Thanks for your help.

Tried to downbload a file and got error which says a file is missing from my system. Was advised to fix it by inserting OS CDROM. I'm supposed to choose some option to fix the error but I can't remember the procedure. Wondering if anyone is famailiar with this?

OS, operating system, ie. windows 2000 professional installation CD.
