PS/2 mouse problem

Hi!

I have a problem with a PS/2 mouse. At times it freezes, and may
work when the computer is restarted. I tried replacing it with a USB
mouse and problem still continues. When I double checked the
connection of the PS/2 mouse there was continuous short beeps, until I released it.

Operating system: Windows XP home

Thank you in advance,

Manny

Is it a M/S mouse?
Do you have an older serial mouse laying around somewhere that you can try?

I once had the same problem. After I bought a serial mouse the mouse finally worked. Here is the link.
