Kids fans still run when system on standby...

I'm wondering why the case fans still run when I put my system on standby? Is this just a normal thing? My old system didn't do this. When I put it on standby it stopped everything. Would having them hooked up to the PS directly be causing this?

I'd have to say that your first assessment is correct. If the fans were connected to the motherboard, then the board would shut the fans down in standby. Since the power supply never actually powers down when the system goes into standby, the fans are still getting full power.

Ummm...not exactly. Only a separate 5 volt DC supply runs 24/7 so long as the power supply (computer) is connected to a live AC outlet. This 5 volts is used to turn the main supply on and off as needed. The fans run off of 12 volts.

I am only guessing here because I do not let my system run long enough to go into standby..but from what I have read (unless I misread it) standby only suspends the HDD plus monitor...the motherboard would still be powered.

ooppppss just reread your answer..yes, of course the PSU would put out full voltage in standby mode...

it's annoying because i'd like for the system to be quiet when it's on standby. it serves no purpose otherwise.
