Wireless Access Trouble

I have just purchased a D-Link 713P wireless router but I am having trouble using the wireless card that I have in my laptop. The PCs are wired and working well. The laptop is running 2000 Pro and I have installed the card software and the utility indicates that I have a strong signal yet I cannot establish a connection to the router.

SSID is the the same on router and wireless card.
They are using the same channel.
I haven't enabled encyption because I wanted to get a connection first.
Any time I make some change I get a balloon popup that says the network cable is unplugged.

Suggestions appreciated.

GZ ,Thanks for the quick reply.
I have a D-Link DWL 650 card. In the utility that installs with the card the status screen indicates a 100% signal strength and 100% link quality. Using Infrastructure wireless mode and I do have MAC filtering on but I used the PC Card's MAC address and its IP address. Was that wrong? It seemed right.
In the D-Link utility at the "Link Info" screen there is an entry under Status which says Associated BSSID= router address. Is that wrong?

Trade in that card for a 650+. I had the same problem aand stayed on he phone with their tech support for hours with
no joy. After you get the new card download the latest drivers from Windows Update. It will rock!! Connect at 22Mbps and connection is always "excellent"

I worked with mine for almost a week and finally got disgusted. The 650+ hooked right up and had a $10.00 rebate to boot.
Good luck

Some things just don't make sense. I pulled the card out while I was looking over the serial numbers and bottom of the card.... plugged it back in.....booted up..... Now it works...Go figure.
I have been playing with configurations for hours. I still need some help with WEP encryption setup.
Pickel how does the D-Link system work? Is MAC filtering enough? I still can't see the other computers on the Network.
