Soyo Dragon KT400 RAID Question

I'm currently using two WD 20 gig drives in RAID 0 (one on each channel) for my main 'drive', with a WD 10 gig on my primary channel with a DVDRW as my backup drive. I've begun to think about adding some more storage.

If I added two more drives, one on each RAID channel for backup and data only purposes, would I end up slowing my main RAID array down?

How and why are you running your raid off of 2 seperate channels? Maybe it is just my board (VIA RAID controller) but I was under the impression that you used one channel per RAID setup.

To answer your question, no it shouldn't. I think you are referring to the RAID 0+1 array and technically that should not be slower than just a RAID 0.

It will not slow them down (IDE technology is past the times of needing to config your drives a certain way to lower potential interferences on the data bus), but you need to ensure your PSU is strong enough to handle the load. Most 350W PSUs and many 400W PSUs are not good enough for that much pull (that is, if you have a high end video card and a decent processor- the newer video cards can pull upward of 75W alone.)

Yea... I have 4 IDE channels.... two are RAID.... my current setup is one drive per RAID channel.

I'm running a 500w PSU, so I figure it can handle it......
