slow bootup xp home

my system is configured to open outlook express on startup and dialup automatically it also loads norton internet security and mother board monitor. this usually takes 90 seconds for the whole process. for about a week now outlook express loads and there is a 60 second pause before norton loads and then the dialup occurs increasing bootup time to 2.5 to 3 minutes. Yesterday I did the critical xp updates and the next few times bootup was 90 seconds. today I am back to the slow bootup.
is there a fix for this?

Outlook Express starting loading slow about three weeks ago.
I had other problems, so I did a clean install. OE worked normal right through win update, but when I installed Norton and updated it OE went back to slow loading. I haven't fixed it yet either. I have read other threads with recent problems with Norton Update but they did not mention this problem.

i had similar problems after installing macafee av, really slowed down my startup. had to do a full recovery in the end.

have you tried msconfig?

just about every program u install will set itself to run at startup when u probably don't need it too.

if you tidy up your start up it might help.

click: start, run,...........then type msconfig and click the startup tab...........have a look for programms loading at startup and uncheck any that u are SURE that u don't need. then reboot.

i'd think about NOT having oe and dial up and that drive checker at startup unless u really need them, and unless u use messenger get rid of it too.

If you disable messenger it will slow outlook express down while it searchs for it .
Also antivirus settings can slow down the os very much if set to check programs prior to opening them .
Good Luck .

I did disable messinger, that must be it.
I think on my last install I uninstalled it. This time I uninstalled it before I installed word and I can't uninstall the one word installed.

Tip: Outlook Express Runs Slowly after Disabling/Removing Messenger. Only 3 Registry edits are required to stop Messenger and get rid of the delay in OE.
