Port Scanner.....

I just got my linux firewall set up and im wanting something to test it out real good. My friend used to have a port scanner but he deleted it. I have seen plenty of network security test port scanners out on the web but im wondering which ones are good. Anyone have any info? Also what are some good sites that probe your network for security flaws?

The best bet would be have a friend launch a detailed nmap scan against your IP address.

Or you can try launching your own NMAP scan from this site....

http://www.linux-sec.net/Scanner/
http://www.linux-sec.net/Audit/nmap.test.gwif.html

Additional information....

http://www.insecure.org/nmap/

Hope this helps,

If you use the software from gz's post, remember to tick the 'scan even if no reply' or whatever it is called, that forces languard to scan nonresponsive computers (computers that drop icmp traffic).

hmm Nessus seems real nice, but.. It takes 2 computers to run it. I dont have internet access outside of my house so it will be impossible for me to install the server part of it on a computer outside of my network. Are there any public Nessus servers??
