Ready to OC...Any advice?

Decided I'd try my hand at this whole Overclocking business recently.
Gigabyte Ga-7VAXP
AMD 2800+ Barton (Unlocked, multiplier=12.5x)
512mb PC2700 DDR (2.5-3-3-7)
Have my FSB to 179mhz... a stable 2.24ghz(36c idle, 40c load). At 180mhz I hit the wall. Am unfamiliar with changing the multiplier, but am guessing that's where I need to go next? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

the multiplier is just so you can speed up the cpu while keeping the other stuff at a reasonable speed....in other words when you increase the fsb you also speed up the pci clock and the agp clock etc etc.....sooooo, what you might try instead is increasing the multiplier some

so instead of 180x12.5=2250 you might try 166x13.5=2250 and from there you could bump up the fsb some more....that way the cpu is being pushed but not the other stuff.....and one of the tricks is trying to find out EXACTLY what it is that is locking you up or refusing to boot. Maybe in your case its the pc2700ram?

and depending on the exact motherboard features you may have some "locks" to lock the pci speed or agp spped etc....and probably the ram has independent adjustments also.

And I suppose once you KNOW its the cpu that wont go any faster you can consider giving it a SLIGHT voltage increase, keeping in mind that it will run hotter that way and then cooling may become the issue.

That's what I was wondering JP-TYVM At this point I suspect the AGP/PCI bus to be the source of the lock (haven't ruled out memory-just waiting for my PC3200 to get here) , but haven't found a way to "split" it from the FSB adjustments, as I noted in the thread recommended by TKOP...
Being that my multiplier is not locked, that's where I was considering going next-just wasn't sure what the effect would be in relation to FSB...still VERY much a noob in reguards to OCing.

Well, so far I've tried upping the multiplier as follows:
13x @ 166FSB stable 2.17, FSB 169 and up unstable (crashes)
13.5x @ 166FSB unstable
14x @ 166FSB posts, will not boot
15x @ 166FSB no post, no boot
Not sure if I should try upping voltage, but I may wait til my PC3200 arrives to positively rule out memory...does this look typical compared to anyone else's experience?
