fried mobo and CPU?
My brother originally had an asus a7v333 and an athlon xp 1900+ He ordered a 2400+ and an a7n8x-x and the mobo arrived faster. So he put his 1900 into the new mobo and turned it on. It immediately turned off again (I think Asus COP might've shut it off or the cpu died, probably because he didn't add enough thermal paste).
He wasn't sure if the CPU was really fried or not (he was planning on giving it to my other brother, so he wanted to see), so he put it back into the a7v333. When it turned on the voice would constantly repeat "System failed CPU test" over and over, so we figured the cpu was fried, though we never did smell anything.
When the 2400 arrived he first put it into the a7v333 to see if that mobo was still working and it still repeated the same thing. So we did the normal (clear CMOS, check hs/f, etc.) and it would still repeat "System failed CPU test."
Then he put the 2400 into the new a7n8x-x and everything worked fine, his systems up and working.
Now I have a mobo and cpu that I'm not sure are dead. Can a fried cpu damage a mobo? What do you guys think?
