1394A (6-pin) connector to a 1394B port

Will a firewire connection work if connect a 1394A (6-pin) connector to a 1394B (9-pin) port on the MOBO?

External firewire cable and port hardware is 1394A. MOBO is 1394B. Any suggestions on whehter upgarde is needed, and, if yes, accomplished.

My apologies if I have selected the wrong board for posting. Please advise if so.

Thank you.

Uh. A is 6 pin. It has the two power wires. B is 4 pin. The mobo has B and A outputs Id suspect like my deluxe and your looking at the mobo header. Which will be B and A f wire outputs. Is this the situation?

This is a Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus MOBO. I'm talking about the ports or headers on the MOBO, not the external I/O connectors. They're red and have two extra pins relative to the existing internal (inside the Chieftec Dragon case) cable connector for the front (external) firewire port.

Perhaps a better way to say my question is that the internal cable hooks fine relative to the key pin but leaves the two left-most pins unconnected.

I suppose I should just try it to find out but I'm spending most of my time studying and trying to build this system right now and haven't gotten around to reading the Sony DV camcorder manual on how to hook it up.

Thanks for your help!

I got a sony handycam. It uses firewire B or sony i-Link as they call it. Royaltie fee's are tied to the firewire name apple owns it and all that. So your case ports in front. THey (fwire) have 4 prongs inside or one with 6 other with 4? If both are 4 (B fwire) then your case dont offer the type A self powered fwire. I used a Chieftech on my buddies build. The front case USB ports dont even work with Asus boards. Asus uses a filter cap so its not working anywhich way., Just say chieftech is good but like all cases the front header ports are hit and miss wether they work with your mobo or not.
