Diablo 2 Gems

I've got another Diablo 2 question for the veteren players here. What do you do with all the gems one may collect? I've got no socketed items, as the unique and set items give much better bonuses than those provided by the gems. I really don't want to just junk em and I've already got gold coming outta my ears. I've got roughly 3 dozen perfect gems total of various types. I wanted to get the +1 or +2 skills ring that's supposedly gotten by three perfect skulls and an amulet as listed on diabloii.net, but the cube recipe must've been removed in the 1.10 patch. I found 2 differnet prismatic amulets, which is really the only other item I'd be interested in for my necromancer. I tried a couple of the other recipes, but they don't work either.

Anybody know of any updated cube recipes (maybe to add sockets to an already enchanted item) so I can have some good use for this pile 'o gems?



To the programmers at Blizzard - why have the gems take up a full spot in your inventory? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a 'gem bag' of some sort that would allow one to carry as many gems as he/she wanted? They aren't heavy or large, but a half dozen gems that would easily fit in the palm of your hand take up as much inventory space as a full suit of plate armor! Just an idea.

Gem's are really good for crafting, I haven't played in months, so your going to want to look this up......


3 Perfect Gems + Colloesus Blade = Chance of making a Cruel Colloesus Blade (Can be a very good sword)

Works with everything else, but using it on Elite items would be the best idea. Another good one is a Hydra bow (trying to make a Cruel Hydra Bow)

I've heard about crafting, but never have figured out what it is. I don't have the expansion pack - is it available in the original? (Never heard of a colloesus blade or a hydra bow either, which is why I'm guessing that it's an expansion thing.)

Only n00bs use 3 perfects gems with a collusus blade... collusus blades can be crafted with 3 chips, which gets it 3 sockets.

But that's 1.09.

1.10 every weapon can be crafted with 3 chips and will get new random stats, and 1 or 2 sockets..

As for pgems, i don't know, they use to be popular for crafting amazon specific bows.

Gems are good, considering that you can put 4 P rubies into an ehterial 4 socket armor to give to your merc, they are good for crafting, especialy blood rings and amultes, and caster belts, rings, amulets.
They are also necessary to upgrade runes, in Ladder play.

For all those gems I have, I just toss them out at the beginning and them pick them up at the end...can be bad if you die and forgot though, lol.

Or like my Hammerdin, a Jewelers Full Plate Mail of the Whale with 4 P rubies, the whale gives between 81-100 life, and Jewelers gives 4 sockets, my armor gives 96 life, with the 4 P rubies i get 248 life from it.

I've found a bunch of recipes for the H-cube that I would like to use, but it looks like Blizzard did away with a bunch of them in 1.10. I'm probably going to get the expansion so I can give stuff to my hireling, get runes, etc.

I did use 2 P diamonds in my Grim Shield (172 defense) since my last post. Only leaves 41 more gems to use...

Are those all perfect gems? I was gonna suggest the obvious and create perfect, becaus no one else has, but with a whoping !!41!!, I don't know what to recommend.

Yeah, they are all perfect gems. However, I tried using this and they all disappeared after a while - don't know why. It did give me a bunch of space in inventory though. I've gotten bored with the game again - nothing new to do except walk through the last 2 acts in Hell difficulty. I wish they'd create some recipes to use gems in that were actually useful.
