after installing a netowrk. internet probs

ok. i installed a netowrk for mine, and my sisters PC. using a cross over. i always disable the network when i got net. unless sumone wants to use the netowrk. and what happens now is i cant go in some sites which i could before. sumtimes i have to refresh the page even 3 times then the page will open. i have a norton firewall, but it doesnt interfere with teh web searching. i also turned off the windows firewall which installed by its self wheni put in the netowrk but still is not goin in sum pages. is there any settings other than the security in IE settings

If you are using an onboard modem and an onboard nic you may be running out of cpu cycles. That will definately slow everything down. Running two pcs off of dialup is a slow process. On board modems and nics use your cpu instead of the chips on the pci card.

Initially sounds more like virus/worm problem to me. Perhaps something like Nachi that consumes your bandwidth while trying to infect other machines.

no no.

my modem is not onboard. my network card is not on board.

and we do share a dail up connecteion but when i am on da internet, my sister cant go on. only one at a time.


after installing the network card, sum internett web sites are not going in on the first try, i have 2 sumtimes refresh the page. and wheni try and use photoshop 7. it is jerky when image editing. not liek before when i didnt have a network, i could use photoshop smoothly.

my specs are p4 2.4
512 mb 2700ram
60 gb and 12 gb hd.

and when on da net and using photoshop, the network is disabled.

I am assuming you have norton anti virus installed. It sounds like you may have a virus or worm. Go to this site and download the free trial version to your desk top. Then unplug your modem and uninstall your anti virus, next install the F-Secure then plug your modem back in and up date F-secure and run a scan. The reason for doing it this way is the first thing a virus or worm does is disable your antivirus.
If everything comes up clean you can uninstall f-secure if you want to and reinstall your old antivirus. just make sure you are not on the internet though. Do the same for your sister's pc

Do not try to run two antivirus programs at the same time all sort of problems can happen.
