DVD Burner

I picked up a Pacific Digital 8x Multi Format Burner today for $79. Good price? Good burner? I'm not sold on having one period because I don't have the money really, but if it's a fair deal I'll probably keep it.

Not familiar with Pacific Digital drives personally, but an 8x Multiformat Burner at that price=good deal, provided that it works "as advertised". I've got a 4x that I paid $107 for. That said, the only problem you might encounter is finding 8x media at a decent price.

If this is the Pacific Digital Mach 8 drive, then the drive is either the BTC 1008IM or the Lite-On LDW-811S. I've heard mixed reviews of the BTC drive but the Lite-On one is supposed to be solid. 50/50 chance you get one or the other so I hope you got the Lite-On.

That's a great price. Did you get it online?

No, locally. Was advertised as $179 - 50 instant rebate - 50 mail in rebate at Office Max. Story is that they ran out of the burner in the promotion and started selling this one for $79 outright (since the rebate wouldn't work for the replacement). My friend bought two and I got one.

I just got an 8X NEC ND 2500A DVD burner from Newegg for $114, and free shipping. It's OEM, with nothing but the drive. It's awesome! I've backed up a few of my DVDs already, using the DVD Shrink & Nero 6 combo.
