Windows XP Randomly Shutting Down

Lately, almost everytime I've started Win XP pro on my laptop (save for once or twice in the last month or so) windows has just shut down on me. It usually goes to a blue screen with some stuff that I can't read because it immediately shuts down.

I've updated my video card drivers. But I took this from the error log:

Error Signature

BCCode : 1000007f BCP1 : 00000008 BCP2 : 80042000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 256_1

Files in error report

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini011604-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Elburn\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sy sdata.xml

Does anyone have anythoughts?

I recognize those errors, which have have been associated with overheating and also with dust inside the case. Some have had luck cleaning out the inside and each component, especially around the processor. That sems like an easy thing to try. I would thank you in advance to let me know if it works.

Bummer!

Oy.

That would mean that I'm going to have to open up my laptop without busting anything.

Thanks for the help.

Try Google Toolbar for popups and adware for
anti Trackware solutions.

Send a message via AIM to rpertusio
Normally XP reboots automatically after a blue screen, so you never have a chance to read it in time. Thankfully, there is a way to keep it from auto-rebooting! Try this:

Control panel -> System -> [Advanced] tab -> Startup and Recovery [Settings...] button -> Uncheck [ ] Automatically restart

Now, the next time this error occurs, you will be able to read the text. Please write down the error code (such as 0x000008E) and any specific files mentioned (if any).

i had the same problem w/ my lappy...
i was working on it but i was forced to reformat due to an unrelated problem. long story short... it doesnt restart on its own any more.

if your going to go this route make SURE you got a reliable firewall and bug killer BEFORE you get back online after the reformat. (i say this b/c not ten seconds after i reset-up my connection to the net i got hit with the msblastworm....

well... goodluck
