UDMA on jetway 531cf?

Hello all,

I have a Jetway 351cf here http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/produ...31cf/531cf.htm i’v just added a brand new Seagate hdd and installed win xp onto it. The problem is I cant get the hard drive to run in DMA, its stuck on PIO.

In device manager the IDE controller is set to DMA if available. I’v tried 2 different 80 conductor cables and downloaded the IDE drivers from the jetway site, but windows xp said the files didn’t contain information about the hardware.

So, what am I missing?

the problem is the sis chipset, it really is rubbish and the drivers are even worse.
i heard somewhere also that the 530 chipset isnt fully supported by 2k/xp.
the sis ide driver makes things slower imo.
sorry cant help you much but i have never got it to work with these boards and i have built a few based on them over the years.
btw win 98 runs well with them!

Thanks for the info, not what I was hoping to hear but oh well. Guess the system is doomed to be stable but slow with XP or faster but dodgy with win98.

Bullsh*t. You need to have ACPI enabled in the board's BIOS, and the SiS IDE drivers installed. Then all will be fine, even with much older SiS chipsets.

The funny part about the "rubbish" SiS chipsets is that their IDE controllers are and always have been particularly fine and fast.

If there's a risk for something being rubbish, then it's the board's BIOS. This might be something that keeps 2K/XP from going UDMA.

Go to driver.sis.com and under Utilities get the latest IDE driver. Once installed, Device Manager will now list SiS PCI IDE UDMA Controller. Make sure your IDE transfer speeds are set to Auto in your BIOS.

OK thanks everyone, if I ever see the thing again, which i probably will, ill be sure to check acpi.

As I said i tried to install the IDE drivers from the SiS site but XP woundn't have anything to do with them.

As we all said before, you need to have ACPI enabled in BIOS, and an ACPI enabled Windows installation on top of that.
