well I thought it was just 2 but I don't know about RAID's and what not. I have NEVER...EVER seen more than 2 on a typical IDE cable.

Seeing as how most IDE ports can only handle two devices, there's not much point making a cable w/ more than two connectors.

There is a possibility that SCSI hard drives can be added to a ribbon cable as long as there are sockets to plug into the drive. I know very little about SCSI devices, but seems like I read somewhere that there can be 15? devices in a string. Its a totally different type of setup than IDE.

IDE can only handle two devices per controller...and thats all of the sockets I have ever seen on any one IDE ribbon cable.

As I said, this SCSI stuff is just an unknown speculation for me.

Get a controller card..that will give you 4 more IDE devices. I am running 4 IDE devices on a Promise controller card now, and 3 more on the motherboard IDE controllers.

It depends on where you purchase the controller at, I've got a maxtor ide controller with serial ata and an ata port, It came with my friends maxtor drive.
However you should be able to find a good one for around 20-60 dollars usually depending on where you buy it at:
