DVD write failure

I am attempting to back up some of my DVD's, I am using DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink 3.0, and Nero 6 software. The last 3 times I have attempted to burn a DVD-R (Memorex) it failed to write after about 90% of the movie was written, so I have a few movies that are missing the last 10mins. I am new to this idea of backing up DVD's, so I have been researching the internet to find the best ways to do this. I recently bought a Liteon DVDRW LDW 811S, seems to work well for everything else I need, but I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong and why burning the DVD's has not turned out yet?? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

What are the error codes and what do the errors actually tell you?

The error simply reads that there was a write error or a failure to write. I do not recall any codes. Each movie I have ripped onto the HD is 4.35GB, do you think that maybe the file size is to large and I should compress the movie a bit more? Thanks.

I have just purchased some Memorex DVD+RW media, and attempted to re-burn 1 of the movies that failed with Memorex DVD-R media; and no errors occured??!! Do you suppose the -R media is bad? The +RW movie does not play very well in my home DVD-player (probably just the DVD player, I will try another player to see if it plays better) the -R played fine, other than the missing end due to a write error. Also the +RW movie played just fine in PowerDVD on the computer. Not sure what happened, any suggestions??

Kreuzemissle my standalone plays -r with no problem but will not play RW. It all depends on your player

My guess would be bad media. Memorex isn't all that great. Try TDKs. You can get a spindle of 25 at BestBuy for $50.

Some people will likely tell you to try Fuji media. The Fuji -R disk I bought recently for $2 each were rebranded $0.70 Riteks. So Fuji means a premium price for mediocre media.

I was wondering what file size most of the DVD's anyone is backing up. How many MB or GB are these files that are being burned onto DVD-R media? DVD Shrink automatically makes the files 4.35GB, but that might be to large for these DVD-R's that I have. I was just curious what the average file size is that most people are burning?
