Talk Back on Mandrake!!!

I had a break from Mandrake and Linux but i am back now. I reinstalled Mandrake 9.2 RC2 on my test computer at work. Its main purpose now is going to be security testing and NIDS. From doing alot of reading, i am finding that there are more utilities available for Linux that Windows when it comes to IDS and port scanning and such.

But, one thing that i had not figured out before, how do i get a shortcut to the console on my desktop. I am using Gnome 2.4

It is good to be back!!

I think the command is gnome-terminal, but I don't know anything about using GNOME. Too bloated for me. I need stuff to be up fast. Without screwing my fonts
This seems to be what you're looking for:

Right click on the desktop, add new launcher.
Maybe its a symlink you want? As I say, not familiar with GNOME.

You might try some other windowmanagers like BlackBox of FluxBox, or IceWM or one of the lighterweight window managers. That makes things run a bit faster.

I've ran Mandrake on slower older machines than yours

My 75 MHz Mandrake 7.2 Blackbox machine........ which i still have running BTW

thanks for the info crouse.

I have switched over to IceWM and i must say that i do like it better. Nothing on the desktop and there is alread a "quicklaunch" button to get to the console. And it does run faster that Gnome does.

I am also now working with Mozilla Firebird. After getting it downloaded and installed it also seems a bit quicker than Gnome's web browser.

Thank again for the replies.
