editing video while capturing

lets say i am editing a tv show with advertisements...is there a way to pause and edit them out other than capturing the entire thing and editing out after its captured. I use sonic my dvd and it doesnt have a pause option.....? can someone help me?

I use a Compro TV/FM card, with the included software you can edit/timeshift and record at the same time (without going to the hdd first) all on the fly, to vcd/dvd or svcd, its about 60$ at Newegg and an amazing little device---
