Hyper-Threading enabled?

My P4 processor definitely has Hyper-Threading, and it even says it's enabled in the BIOS, but when I run SiSoft Sandra 2004's CPU Multimedia benchmark it has a 'X' next to Hyper-Threading in its report. Then at the bottom of the report it says: "HT Disabled or OS does not support all HT CPUs".

Anyone know why?

By the way, I'm using Windows XP Home SP1.

In Device Manager it lists two processors installed so that surely must mean that HT Technology is working?

Phew.

Still, though, why doesn't it show up in Sandra?

OK, now I'm getting more confused.

I was just reading a few reviews on different P4 processors and came across this one which has a screenshot of Windows' Task Manager on an HT-enabled system. Now, what's the big deal with that you might ask? Well, put simply, in the screenshot it shows two processors running under Task Manager, while if I look at the exact same application on my computer, it only shows one!

Any ideas?

Under device manager, where is says "Computer" check to see if it's showing " ACPI Multiprocessor PC" and NOT "ACPI Uniprocessor PC".

No, it doesn't say either of those, it says: "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC".

I think I know why it's so screwed up now, though. The version of Windows XP Home that I've got installed was originally meant for a pre-built Compaq system. So, basically, it looks like I'll be buying myself a brand new copy of WinXP Pro!

um... I thought that Windows XP Home only support a single processor.
Maybe you need to upgrade to Windows XP Pro because I hear that it can support 2 processors. Is the correct?
Because I was thinking that HT emulates 2 processors. Then the OS thinks it has dual processor and sees it, but cannot use it because its Windows XP Home.
I think you need Windows XP Pro. thanks
