Allowing access to clients

How can I allow clients to have access to certain files and allow them to create their own username and password?

Is this a paid service or are there scripts that I can use to develope my own system?

thanks!

What kind of files? Something drawn from a database? Images?

soo this is the example of what I want to do...

www.mcqueenashman.com/access

but I want this section of the website to be password protected. so each lawyer can access the files from home.

also...I want to be able to do something similarto this but for the clients. so that the clients can access only their own files.

Well, the problem for me would be the part about letting the individual create their own password. I'm sure there is something out there for this but it is eluding me at the moment.

I'm working on it.

thanks I appreciate it.

I was also wondering how does it work if you password protect a page that has frames. Do you need to insert code to password protect each individual frame or can u just password protect the directory?

Because I'm going to have everything in a directory and I dont want other to have access byt just inputing the URL path of the directory and being able to get in without going through the login page.
