Systems C-Media PCI8738 Sound Card Line In Problems

Hi, I purchased a C-Media PCI 8738 Sound Card recently and everything works fine on it, except for when I'm trying to record some old home movies... there's on sound when I have my capturing program turned on and there's no sound after I capture my file.

I have everything setup exactly how it was on my old sound card which worked just fine. That is, I don't have Line In muted on Playback, and here's something strange. Under recording, there's only 3 options... which are: Stereo Mix, Microphone, and Wave. There's no Line In, which I find very strange.

When I installed the sound card, it also installed C-Media's own Mixer. Under Playback for this mixer, the Line In is greyed where I cannot change the sound or turn it on or anything. It is the same way under Recording.

One other thing I noticed in the Advanced part of the Mixer is that depending on how many speakers you set it for, it changes around the Line In jack, so I've tried hooking up the cord to every port on the card, and am still getting nothing.

I have some home movies that I'd really like to be digitalized, but what good are they without sound? If anyone knows what to do, or has any suggestions, anything would be appreciated.

Depending on how the card uses the chip, you might have reassigned the Line-In plug to be rear-speaker-out or something. When installing the drivers for the 8738, you are asked whether your card is three- or four-plug. The former have a switchable LineIn/RearOut plug, while the latter have it all separate. Make sure you made the right choice when installing drivers, and if yours is three-plug, make sure you set the plug to actually be LineIn.
