Kids Ram Question!?!?

My specs are:

Intel Celeron 2.4
256SDRam(pc100)
Win XP Pro
FX5200 256bit
40gb Maxtor HDD

My question is, i play Call of Duty, right now i get respectable FPS, but if I were to get say 512 PC2100(all my mobo supports) and just run that, will i get any more FPS?!?!and if so, how much more on average? thanks all!

you probaby WOULD get more fps, but barely, FPS relies more on the video card, so i suggest upgrading that...
your system isn't built for gaming at all...celeron?? seriously...

Adding RAM won't affect your FPS in games that much, if at all, but WinXP really likes at least 512 and it can't hurt. You'd probably get more performance bang by upgrading the CPU if your board supports it.

you gaming performance will not get much better adding more memory, the bottleneck right now its your processor, celerons where not aimed for gaming.....

Altought having more memory I will make your system run a little more smoother, It will access less your harddrive... XP is memory hungry I bet it almost uses your current 256....

A Late welcome to TechIMO

You will not get a large fps boost with upgrading ram. Your bottlenect is in the celly (and possible that FX 5200 of yours). I suggest getting a new processor (if your motherboard supports it, if not, get a mobo too ). After that, get some ram. If you video card wasnt a FX-series, I'd say you should upgrade that, but since you already shelled out money for that (IMHO, the 5200 is a waste of cash), then dont bother upgrading again.

you can't go from PC100 all the way to PC2100...your motherboard only supports the 2100 and up or the PC100 or PC166. Theres never that big of a jump in memory...major bottleneck if it is somehow...

i think you can start off by changing your RAM to DDR. if your mobo has SD/DD ram slots, then it will be possible. by the 512 DDR stick. your windows will run smoother and it will have more room to do its stuff.

for the added FPS, the video card and CPU is the answer. just be happy for what you have right now. just list this two first in your priority upgrade list.
