Gaming Trying to OC my 2400+

Does anyone know how to OC an Athlon XP 2400+ without phsically doing anything to the board or the processor. Like a program or a driver?

what motherboard do you have?

some motherboards have software to overclock, but most of the time you will have to go into the bios

perhaps if you are serious in overclocking invest some money into this book

I tried that, there's nothin in the BIOS that will allow you to adjust the clcok frequency of your processor.

I don't think HP builds their computers with the overclocker in mind. There are basically 2 ways to overclock your CPU

1) Change the fsb in the bios
2) Change the multiplier in the bios

Since you say you cannot change anything in the bios I guess you are just out of luck.

The 2400+ isn't a bad cpu to overclock though. I have mine overclocked to 2.2 without changing the voltage.

Is the 2400 an upgrade? Do you have the manual?

What model of HP?

What speed is the processor currently running?

You might have a jumper to change it from 100 to 133 mhz FSB, for example.

Yea, I was thinking about the jumper too, but the FSB is definitely 133 or more, I know that for sure.

Its an HP Pavilion 725n, I never upgraded the processor, the memory, or the board. I got the manual, but I doubt that HP will "teach" you to do OC on their system, it ruins their profits. The processor is running at 2400+ or 2.0 GHz.

Here's a little more on your system specs:
Component
Attributes

Ram (installed)
512K/DDR 2700 (2 x 256) up to 64 MB shared video memory

Maximum allowed
1 GB (2 x 512) requires replacement of the installed 256 K DIMMs

Speed supported
PC2400 MB/sec

Type
184 pin, DDR SDRAM

DIMM slots
Two

Open slots
None available

Video graphics

Integrated nVidia GeForce4 MX graphics with up to 64 MB allocated video memory

The good news is you can upgrade the video, with an AGP add on card. That should help you out with games, if that is your goal.

There are no available ram slots, so you would have to nix on (or Both) sticks of ram. However, 512 MB ram should be plenty.
