Kids SATA HD wont format

I just bought a new Maxtor 6Y120M0 HD. It is SATA, 120G and i install it on the 2theMax MB. The HD should be fine cause it works fine on another as tested. It seems the si3112 chipsset dont let me to format the HD. Do u guys have any problem like me? Or any one can help me out of this?

I had a similar problem with a Maxtor 80GB SATA drive but it had to do with installing windows. Windows wouldnt detect it. You have to install your motherboard drivers so it detects the SATA drive. I just had to pop in my floppy that came with my Epox. I dont know what came with your mobo, but you may wanna try installing the latest drivers.

Does your computer see the drive?

Hmm, maybe you could try Powermax. Just read it and see if it sounds like your situation. Download it to your desktop, then just install it to a floppy.

My case is this:
i want to fresh install win2K to the SATA HD, i did press F6 and load the driver provided for the SATA adapter. Of cos, the win2K can find there is a HD, however, when win2K try to format the partition, it fail.
that's why i dont knowwhat is going wrong.

Send a message via AIM to originel
could you possibly format the drive in windows (possibly even on another comp) and then reinstall?

Dont it say f6 to load SCSI drivers not sata? SCSi and ATA are two totally diff types of devices. IDE is ata so is Seriel ata. SCSi is SCSi.

Try it once without f6'ing and NOT loading sata driver where it asks for scsi. See if it helps.

Just built a Win2k and SATA system yesterday. You definitely need to hit f6 during the install to load the SATA drivers.
jdroger, are you getting any kind of error message when the format fails? Can your bios handle that large of a hd? Perhaps a bios flash is in order.

If you have access to a computer with a recent version of linux on it it should be very easy - mine was automatically set up under redhat 9, i did need to do some tweaking for redhat 8

THX for all your reply,
but if you did read my post carefully,
i DID press the F6 and load the SATA driver to the install process.
the window can see the HD
but it just STOP the format in the middle.
ALSO, i try the following ways and fail TOO:
1. 98 boot disc
2. partition magic
3. GDISK
