ntfs partitions in linux

i just installed college linux on my machine, but unfortunately im new to linux and i cant mount my ntfs formatted partition, let alone see the partition. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't if I were you. I believe there is support to mount NFTS, and maybe even to write to it. But my understanding is it's quite risky and you might lose data.

Search around TIMO and you should find a thread or two already discussing it.

have you checked /mnt directory? most distros i have used automatically mount the windows partition on that directory should have one directory with windows

I always have my ntfs partitions mounted--though you cannot write to ntfs.
(actually you can but you have to be very carefull of how & when)It is simple to keep from having problems--simply make sure that in your fstab for the ntfs partition that ro (read-only) is added as an option. You can copy files from ntfs with no problems.
