XP install loop
I am trying to install windows xp. It boots from the cd and then says "Setup is examining your hardware" and goes through the setup. Format and copies files. When it's done and reboots the system, it goes right back to "Setup is examing your hardware"
Any suggestions?

Is it an original disk or a copy?
Also, Windows is very picky about memory.
Check if the memory modules are ok with a program called Memtest.

remove the XP install Cd from the CDROM during the reboot. or try this, your CDROM is setup to be the first boot device, go to the bios and set the HDD to boot as first device. so, it will not boot again the CD and start installing.. good luck.

Go into your BIOS and change your first boot device to your hard drive.

Some computers I've worked with did not show the option; if it was set to boot from the CD first, it would go straight into the WinXP setup from the CD.
Well, just to make sure, remove the CD so that it can't boot from the CD. Tell us what happens.

I couldn't figure it out. Normally I'd let it go to the "Press any key to boot from CD...." message and let the timer run out so it goes to the hard drive. Then I realized that for some reason, the message wasn't appearing and it would go ahead and boot from the CD.
