Is this safe? P4 3.0Ghz to 3.59Ghz

I've turned my CPU's voltage to 1.6 from its usual 1.5250 and increased my P4 3.0Ghz's speed to 3.59Ghz. I have 1GB Dual Channel DDR400 PC3200 RAM installed. Everything's stable after a few hours, plus the CPU's temperature is only at 24C.

Now, what I want to know is - is what I've done safe? Also, will it reduce my CPU's life span?

Thanks in advance.

Your voltage and temperature levels are well within tolerance, so you should have no problems running at the overclocked speed.

To measure stabllity, try running Sisoft SANDRA or other intensive benchmark in a looping configuration for a few hours. Assuming the temps stay low and the system doesn't crash, you have a great mid-range overclock going there!

Perfect---common OC for that type of setup, hard to beat eh?

Thanks for your comments, Robert.

I've got SANDRA 2004 installed on my desktop at the moment, so I'll give the looping test a shot in the morning.

Any other comments?

24C? that sounds really low for an overclock? What are you using to cool it and what is your room temp?

Yeah, I think I've nearly pushed it to its limit.

So, will overclocking the CPU so much shorten its life expectancy?

What setting did you use to overclock your CPU? What motherboard are you using and what heatsink fan?

I'm using the Thermaltake Spark 5+. Plus I've got three system fans installed as well as a dual-fan 550W PSU.

I don't actually know my room temperature but the computer is in the basement of my house so it's pretty cold at the moment and it is usually for most of the year. By the way, I'm living in England so it's winter over here!

Basement + England = Cold CPU!

Electron migration due to overvoltage may affect your processor in 5-10 years, so you probably should not worry about the overclock as long as the temperature remain consistent.

My motherboard is the GA-8IPE1000 Pro. Check the earlier post for heatsink.

I upped my FSB to 239(?)x15 and the BIOS autmatically configured the memory frequency for me.
