BIOS Checksum Error

Hi everybody,

I have an old HP Pavilion 6465 running Windows 98SE getting a BIOS checksum error for the last two days. It prompts for the current date and time. Once entered, the system boots right up. Is this the result of a bad/failing CMOS battery? Any other possibilites?

I need to check the specs on the motherboard and battery before I proceed too much further. I wanted to see if you had any other potentail causes for this before I opened the box.

Thanks

Most probably it's the cmos battery having it's life expectancy end.
Just replace it, not a big deal, doesn't cost much.

If it is the 2032 battery, looks like a nickel. You can get one at Wal-mart for about $2.

That's a CMOS checksum error? Not a BIOS checksum error? These are entirely different problems!

CMOS error -> replace battery
