HD not being recognized in bios

Current SYS.

Soyo Dragon lite
AMD 2gig XP
512 ram (kingston)
Lite-on DVD burner
HD1 40 gig maxtor
HD2 60 gig maxtor
Windows XP

I wanted to upgrade the HD sys by only having one and that one is a 120 gig Maxtor.

For some strange reason, the bios won't recognize it.

Here's what I have tried so far.
flashed the bios, Changed cables, changed it from master to slave and back again.

HD works in another sys (Asus 700mhz sys)

Is there anything that I have missed?

When used by themselves, most WD's have to have the jumper in the "Default" position or it won't be recognized. It should be marked on the HDD for "Factory" or "Default".

what I have done with these drives is to add a pci controller card, usally comes with the maxtor and WD drives of the larger size, no problems when doing it this way

But the SOYO web site say's the Dragon lite can take up to a 200gig, so I'm trying to avoid having to do that.

Try clearing the CMOS, and installing the hard drive. Make sure the jumpers are correct, blue end of the IDE cable to the mobo, master drive on the far end.

Hey Dallas,
I have done all that. I'm not to sure where to go on this one, cause I know it works as I have tested it in another machine. The wierd thing is, I have 2 of these drives and they both do the same thing, i.e don't work on this system but work on others.

Try cable select and then try SINGLE!

Thanks for all of your input. I think I have figured it out. I feel that it is a power supply problem or a bad jumper cause here is what I just did and all is working fine.

1) replaced jumper with new one that more securly fit the pins.

2) I had 2 hd's in the sys originally, and when I first tried to put the new HD in I had only remove the power off of 1 of them (even though they weren't attched to the sys any more - separate cable)


So now with the new jumper and what I can only assume is a bit more juice all seems well.
