Welcome to TechIMO.

I would think the easiest way to do this w/o any hassle, is to just pull the hard drive out the old computer, look on the back (or bottom) of it for the jumpers, and set them to "slave".

Then just plug in the power and IDE cable from the new system to the drive, fire up the computer and copy the files you want.

When you have all the files you want, just switch the jumpers back and replace the drive.

Very simple. No software or hardware.

how many megabytes we talking about here? Obviously one easy way is to burn em to a cd.

other options.

take a spare hard drive and slap it in the first machine....drag the audio files to it...take the hard drive out and over to the other machine...get the files off of it. (Sort of messy with having to open the cases etc)

Then there is the networking option....put a nic in each comp and get a crossover cable between them and transfer all day long.

Or, yes, you could do it like prison kids suggests....I used to be really nervous about that in the windows98 days (having two active partitions with OSes in the same comp)..but evidently its ok with XP....I am still nervous a bit though...and I have lots of spare hard drives so I would do this one as my last option....I am always scared it will add something or mess with my boot.ini...my boot menu etc.

Good one JP.

This I would agree is the safest way to do this, and you can actually just leave that drive in, and use it for backing up user files.

ya..only issue being most users dont have spare drives....but now the little usb 'thumb drive" type things are getting popular...another good way to do it (may take a few trips)

Do those little "thumb drives" work very well? Any software needed?

Probably for W98se and back..but I imagine ME and above see em automatically as "mass storage device" and just gives em a drive #. (Ive never used one, but I am thinking of what it does with card readers etc)
