Does my Pioneer DVR-106BK need a firmware update before using 4x media?

I just ordered a Pioneer DVR-106BK (black version) that burns to 4x media. But... I've heard that some Pioneers need firmware updates before they can write to 4x media. I've heard drives get ruined if it isn't updated.

So basically, does my model need an update? It isn't listed on the Pioneer site, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks,

-Chris

Ya, and I just checked up on the firmware and it is apparently safe to burn on 4x discs. *shrug*

Copied Finding Nemo using DVD Shrink 3.1.2 in ~ 45 minutes. Can you say awesome?

My 106 had problems writing to 4X media. I upgraded the firmware, it is still a but funny about certain media but burns ok on most

you can always just update the firmware to the latest version just to be safe.

Mine actually shipped with the latest firmware, so I didn't need to worry about.

By default, the DVR106s can write 4x without any updates.

If your drive is having problems, you probably need to have Pioneer look at it.

For copying DVDs?

Simple, DVD Shrink 3.1. Just search google for DVD Shrink 3.1 and you should be able to download it. It's pretty self explanitory but go ahead and post a new thread if you need help.

Please no more posting in this thread. If you need something specific, PM me.

Reviving old threads isn't really too incredibly cool.
