Heatsink install

When building my first computer, every second warning I read was.. Don't crush CPU.. Be careful CPU fragile.. It is very easy to crush CPU..

What the heck is going on here.. Took all my strength and patience to install the darn stock sink \fan on my cpu.. And I don't want to see girly man jokes.. What gives.. I'd like to buy after market sink/fan to overclock.. But I'm nervous of changing it. I have A7N8X - D board... The clips were very hard to clip down.. All articles said clips would easily snap on.. Please comment.. Any suggestions on economical overclocking gear appreciated..

clips were fairly hard to clip on for my TT volcano 9 coolmod. of course there is only a 1 cm gap between the edge of that heatsink and my power supply....

even harder to take off

my suggestion: you may need some force to clip it, but apply that force to the clip. do not push down on the heatsink itself.

It depends on the clip lock. I've had some that you almost had to stand on to get down. Usually I take the HS apart (if possible) and work the clip a little to get the metal to bend easier.

some suggestions,
Instead of risking goughing the mb with a slip of the screwdriver, use long needle nose pliers instead.

Also see if this helps you any Socket A Heatsink Install Video

yeah, very risky to use a screwdriver pushing the clip to it's place. a slip of the screwdriver and every excitement that you ever had on your new install will be like "AAAAARGHHHHH". good luck man.
be careful not to push to hard, you might crush the processor, esp for AMD proc., you may crack the die or crystal.

It can be intimidating. I usually upgrade the entire cpu, but I recently bought the CoolerMaster Jet-4 to replace my stock Intel hs/fan. The old one came off pretty easy, and removing the old thermal compund with alcohol wasn't too bad. The Jet-4 is a really HEFTY piece of machinery, but the locking clips did an awesome job, and that big,bad boy is keeping my cpu real cool! Looks awesome through my window.

Sweet goodness Dr Roberts! I want one of those, but I've got my Aero V ( squirrel cage style fan on a copper skivved heatsink ) which does an awesome job. The clip went on with the push of a thumb...no tools needed.

The Flower heatsink on the wifes system though, came with that goofy tool for the clip, and was more difficult.
