Is It The Wrong Combination

Legend V Slot 1 mobo
P2 300 mhz cpu
64 mb sd ram
radeon 7000 64 meg video card
2 nic cards
Generic sound card
MSI 52x cdrom
Maxtor 60 gig 7200 D740X-6L
The motherboard is flashed with latest bios to see large harddrives to 72 and some odd gigs, and does see it but keeps telling me that operating system is missing. Is this not a workable combiation or is there something I can do to get it to work.I want to use it as the serving comp on a home network. Thanks for any advice.
Sorry for lack of info.It did come out of another system had XP pro on it .reloaded the operating system, and tried some linux distros to only have them hang on initial boot after install. My 98 disc can't be seen anymore and I got the same response about no operating system for w2k and am now trying 95 b just to see if it will and then maybe do an upgrade.

OK, Ill take the bait here.

Uhh, is there an OS installed on the hard drive?

Is this a new hard drive or did it come out of another system?

Agree with John, you say BIOS is seeing it, then the problem is most likely.....No operating system.
