I friend gave me an Epson printer Stylus colour 640 to service as it was squelling really bad when printing. I blew out the dust, wiped the printer over with a clean cloth and lightly oiled the bar the ink cartridge assembly slides along. She told me it needed a new cartridge to print black so I installed the one she gave me with the machine.
When I did a test print there were lines and gaps appearing in the colour and black and white. I ran almost 10 cleaning processes in a row and then did a nozzle pattern check after each one but it only managed to solve the colour problem.
I contacted Epson who said to remove the ink cartridge and tap the top of it 8 times and then put the cartrdige back in and do a nozzle pattern check. They said to do this 3 times. However this also did not solve the problem. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem. I am guessing that it might be a blocked ink jet, but am not sure how to fix it.
Could I try wiping the underside of the ink cartridge assembly where the ink jets are with a swab dipped in alcohol? I know its an old style printer but I really want to get it working again.
If the ink is not coming out of those epson cartridges, try using rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and rubbing the port where the ink comes out. Works for me on my stylus 820.
