Budget Pc via newegg.com

Hey Guys,

I was killing some time making a few concept PC's (budget PC's) over at newegg earlier. Now I have made a few of these before, but with minor changes.

$48.00K7VM2 ASROCK MoBo(all-in-1)(retail)
$80.00AMD 2400XP CPU(retail)
$40.00Simple Tech 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM(oem)
$37.00Luna Beige PC Case w/350Watt PSU(retail)
$58.00WD 40GB/7200RPM/8MB Hard Drive(oem)
$50.00Lite-On 48x24x48x16 CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive(oem)
$09.59Samsung 3.5" Floppy Drive(oem)
$91.00Windows XP Home Full SP1a(oem)

Total With OS = $413.59
Total Minus OS = $322.59

Shipping included with this price. I use this as a basic layout for any of my customers PC's and from this i upgrade or downgrade whatever they choose. If anyone has a better setup for me to try out, please feel free to pm or post so we can share ideas. I am a 5 year veteran of custom pc builds and can always use some advice.

A 2400 is not bad, but a 2500 Barton is only $10 more. Add Geil Value Series 256MB DDR PC2700 (oem) for $38.

Slinky,

The only problem there with upgrading the cpu to a barton and the memory to a 2700, is that we would have to upgrade the board as well. I believe I am correct, but prove me wrong

I think upgrading the mobo to a Biostar M7NCD would be a good idea. It's an nForce 2 400 chipset only lacking SATA, dual channel memory, and firewire. It's only $53.00 at newegg so it only adds $5.00 to the total. Allows up to 400Mhz FSB and PC3200DDR RAM. Allows you to upgrade later for customers without the hassle of changing a motherboard. Adding a better video card would also need to be an option but cheaper cards can also be found. Maybe an Aopen GF4 MX 400 64MB SDR 4x for $37.00 at newegg. Adds a total increase of $42.00 for a total of $455.59 with an OS. I think if you allow for an easier upgrade path it may save you some future headaches when they come back wanting an upgrade. Maybe change the CPU to an XP1800+. Just a thought though.

Whoops missed out that detail
ASRock K7S8X R3.0 $47. I read a review for the ASRock K7S8XE and it seems to fit pretty well for a budget pc.

decent system, but I would go with the Barton, the Geil Value Ram and the Biostar Nforce mobo.
Overall you have an increase of $13 to your total system, but you get more breathing room for the future, as well as better performace and better heat management. The barton puts out less heat, and I am sure tha the Baige case does not have amazing air flow to keep that bad boy nice and cool.

Mr.Purple,

That luna case has fan locations for 6 80mm fans. Its got a great airflow system. Heats no big deal in there. Can take 2 rear 80mm, 4 front 80mm, and comes with that side 80mm. The setup with the geil ram, nforce2 mobo and bartons a great idea. I am always looking for new combos to try. Keep em coming. The more the better.

Great responces by the way guys. We actually got some thinkers here at timo
